Born in 1957, Gayle Hegland is an Editorial Illustrator and American Artist originally from and presently living at her home in Montana. She is academically trained and received her BFA, MA and MFA degrees in Fine Art and Illustration. Hegland has taught at The School of Visual Arts, The University of Montana and full-time at the Minneapolis College of Art and Design.
As a editorial illustrator Hegland has been commissioned by such publications as The New York Times, Washington Post, National Law Journal, Wall Street Journal, Los Angeles Times, The Nation, The Progressive, Atlanta Constitution, Village Voice, Chronicle of Higher Education, Conde Nast Traveler, Playboy, INX, United Features Syndicate and Sports Illustrated.
Brad Holland, Steven Heller, Marshall Arisman and Robert Weaver were her mentors and instructors in NYC through the School of Visual Arts where Ms. Hegland was accepted into, and received her Masters in 1990, from Marshall Arisman's innovative and prestigious MFA-Illustration as Visual Essay and Journalism program.
Hegland has received several fine art awards and professional development grants and has shown internationally in galleries since the early 1980's. Her work is included in ENDGRAIN: Contemporary Wood Engraving in North America.
She received the New York City National Arts Club Award of Distinction in 1990 for her Vietnam Vet image on the left.
